KEPONG, KUALA LUMPUR - This was to be my last camp as a Junior BB Boy. We gathered at Methodist Boys’ School, Kuala Lumpur with excitement and anticipation. When everyone was present, we embarked on our buses which took us to FRIM, Kepong.

As we got of our buses, we were greeted with lush surroundings and the hum of a calm forest. We were then briefed regarding rules and regulations for the next 3 days. The next activity was tedious because we had to pitch our own tents. After what seemed to be a skirmish, we finally managed to put up our tents.

Over the next 3 days, I learned many new things and experienced various degrees of endurance. We were taught how to cook over an open fire, and we managed to prepare lunch and dinner for ourselves. Although the meals were simple, we thoroughly enjoyed our own cooking. The games that we played are almost unforgettable, one particular game had us tasting unknown substances with our eyes blindfolded. Fortunately, they were just fruits and vegetables, not jungle cockroaches that were placed into our mouths.

There were uncomfortable challenges like bathing in cold water, dealing with leaking tent-tops when it rained and fighting mosquitoes and leeches. Some of us were kept awake at night as we shared tent with snorers. During the daytime, we were constantly disciplined for outward behaviour and misplacing our belongings

However, I thank the officers and helpers for their hard work and effort in organising and running the camp. They made sure we were safe and secure, and taught us how to be profitable in our actions. I am grateful and thankful for the opportunity to share this camping experienced with my fellow BB members and I look forward to many more such camps.
