OFF JALAN KUCHAI LAMA - One of the most anticipated events was the Awards day. Even though 10th Kuala Lumpur held its Awards and Enrollment Day on separate occasions last year, there was only one such event this year, coined E&A. It was held at Full Gospel Assembly Kuala Lumpur, 10th KL's sponsoring authority. All award applications had been submitted weeks ago. So in the days before the event, all we could do was exchange nervous banter concerning the details of each application. Yet when the day arrived, no one really knew what to expect..
Final preparations for E&A started at 6:45 in the morning, with 10th KL's excited NCOs falling in for a final briefing. We all took great measures to ensure our uniform was in tip-top condition. Rehearsals for all presentations and a sound check for the worship team was performed to insure a smooth and problem-less event. Guest started to arrive at 8:45am, and were greeted with lighthearted welcomes from the ushers. The event commenced the moment the guest-of-honor, Mr. Michael Yei, the President of the Stedfast Association of Kuala Lumpur, arrived.
Following the color party march in, the company sang Negaraku (Malaysia's National Anthem) and the Anchor Song. Then was the worship session led by Corporal (promoted to Sergeant during the event) Brian Ee and short sharing from the Bible, there was a presentation by the Votklist 2.0, the very team that 10th KL sent to Pesta 2014. Subsequently, there was the Junior and Pre-Junior award presentations. All recipients were happy and proud of their achievement.
The Senior awards presentation after a skit depicting Jesus' sacrifice for us. The first badges to be given out were the Target badges to the newly promoted privates. After that, the band was able to unleash the product of their long hours of practice in a repertoire including “Dark Fortress”, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and the infamous “Let It Go”.
The event came to a close following a thanksgiving speech by our Captain, Ms Esther Chew. But it was not over yet. The best part came shortly after. It was the food! There was a full blown buffet for everyone with dessert to top the lunch up! Congratulations were echoed around as everyone enjoyed the meal. It was a truly enjoyable day for all, young and old.
