TAMAN PERTANIAN NEGARA, SHAH ALAM - On the 8th of February 2014 (Saturday), 130 students from the 12th Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade and the 3rd Kuala Lumpur Girls' Brigade were accompanied by teachers went for an outing to Taman Pertanian Shah Alam. Some left school at 7.30 a.m. by bus while others went there with their own transport. Upon entering the grounds of Taman Pertanian, we then gathered at a shack where bicycles were rented. The participants were separated into 10 groups. A total of 6 groups will be cycling around the park while the other 4 groups will be walking. As the participants were told, this was going to be like station games. The only difference is that we were having it in a park this time. All the groups were to complete tasks given to them at each station as quickly as possible.

After clear instructions were given, the participants shot off excitedly when the game officially started. Participants were seen to have extremely high spirits as they cycled or walked around the park. Some were appreciating the beauty of Mother Nature while most of them were just simply too excited to reach their first station for the game which awaits them. Participants also built teamwork as they were encouraging one another not to give up and move on faster. They even work together as one to go through difficult stations. Some of the games include guessing the name of a song, holding a balloon with chopsticks and a general knowledge quiz on Girls’ Brigade and Boys’ Brigade. Throughout the whole event, squad leaders ensured the safety of their members. Teachers also went around the park to make sure that despite all the fun, safety should come first as there were several accident prone areas.

At around 11.00 a.m., we were escorted to Taman Rusa for lunch with a refreshing view of a swimming pool. We said grace and the facilitators served the starving participants with chicken rice, some fruits and vegetables. All of us were hungry and soaking wet with sweat. However, we all agreed that we had lots of fun although sadly many of us could not finish all the stations. The winning group from the cycling category which is group 2 and walking category which is group 7 were given prizes consisting of light snacks which they shared amongst themselves. All in all, it was a fantastic outing which definitely built teamwork, perseverance and endurance.
