SUNGAI BESI, KUALA LUMPUR - On this day, the Inter-zone Drill Competition too place. The SMK Taman Desa drill team members gathered at school at 6.30 a.m before moving to the Sungai Besi’s drill ground near SMK Tasik Selatan. We reached around 8.00 a.m. and did our final touch up and polishing. At around 10.15 a.m, we gathered at the drill ground near the school for uniform inspection and the competition proper.

There were four teams competing in the NGO Boys Category. SMK Taman Desa was one of them. All the teams are winners in their own zone. We are the last team to march in with the code NL4. Sgt. Timothy Lim, our commander, and the team of 30 drill members marched in with a loud, spiritful “Upmmh!”. The commander reported to the judge before we started with the basic drill, followed by formations. The SMKTD Drill Team has 4 formations.

At around noon, it was time for the closing ceremony. What was really surprising is that the parade commander is a girl. What surprised us more is that we could hear her commands even though we were at the far end of the parade grounds. While waiting for the VIPs to arrive, we did a short rehearsal on the closing ceremony.

Several minutes later, the VIPs arrived. We sang Negaraku and Wilayah Persekutuan song. Then, was the time we’ve been waiting for - the results of the NGO Boys Category. 3rd placing went to SM Sains Alam Shah (Scouts), 2nd placing to SMJK Chung Hwa (Scouts) and finally - 1st placing to SMK Taman Desa (Boys’ Brigade).

After the closing ceremony, we walked back to SMK Tasik Selatan and had our lunch there. Later on our bus arrived to sent us back to SMK Taman Desa. We all went back feeling very joyful that we have won the title for the second successive year, and more so when our team this time consists of a big group of younger Boys.
